Become A Certified Financial Planner

How To Become Certified
What Does a Certified Financial Planner Do?
As a certified financial planner, you will need to be good at calculating projections and thinking of the customer’s needs. It is important when advising clients on financial planning to have a good understanding of their financial situation and the different types of products available. You also need to understand the variations between these financial products. An important factor in choosing appropriate financial products is the cost to the customer, whether they have the capability to bear the cost, and how the customer will benefit when the plan matures. Customers may be private individuals or organizations. You could learn about portfolio and investment management, estate planning, insurance, tax planning, finance modeling, strategic investing and planning, financial consulting services, and client relations.

Why Should I Become a Certified Financial Planner?
While it is not a requirement to practice, the US Bureau of Labor states that employment opportunities are enhanced if you are certified. The Certified Financial Planner credential is often referred to as CFP. It can show potential customers, or employers, that you have received extensive training and are competent in the area of financial planning. The CFP certification, controlled by the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards, Inc., requires you to have relevant experience and education, to pass the exam, and to adhere to an enforceable code of ethics.
