A plus certification is a certification program developed by the Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) to certify knowledge and expertise in installation, maintenance, customization, and operation of personal IBM compatible computers.

Courses in A plus certification will likely teach you how to identify computer hardware parts and familiarize you with buses, traces, and pathways. Coursework will also focus on the types and differences in computer hardware, including CPU’s and RAM. By the end of your coursework, you should have a solid understanding of what DRAM is and what the benefits of its uses are, in addition to understanding the different CPU Slot architectures, and you should be comfortable updating, installing, and troubleshooting all of the above if the need arises.

Coursework in A plus certification will also extend beyond the hardware of modern computers and will focus on teaching you the ins and outs of different operating systems. A plus certification coursework will focus on Windows operating systems and rarely covers Unix, Linux, or other operating systems. Knowledge of operating systems may allow you to be proficient at diagnosing and solving most computer user’s problems.
