Sonography Certification
 What is Sonography?
Sonography is the creation and study of images using sound. This is similar to the techniques used by submarines to determine the position of enemy vessels or geographical features. This technique is widely used in medicine to help diagnose abnormalities, disease, or birth defects without having to perform a surgery on a patient.
As a sonogrphy technician you would generally be expected to explain to the patient what is about to happen, and then you help them position themselves correctly by the equipment. You may use a handheld machine. Once you have located the correct region, you can then record that image for diagnosis by a physician or veterinarian. You would probably be responsible for keeping the consulting room clean and for cleaning the equipment. You might also be in charge of equipment service schedules and general maintenance. Occasionally sonography is used for slightly more unusual purposes such as archeology or pathology.

Sonography certification can help give you an edge in job opportunities. There is a range of different medical imaging techniques, which employ other methods such as magnetism and X-ray. Clearly, the more qualifications you have using these techniques, the more attractive you will be to a medical imaging department. Some large clinics now employ medical imaging personnel, so you may find opportunities here also. |
